Mindset To Succeed As Entrepreneur

Is there a secret to success? Looking at successful people the key seems to be their mindset. Your mindset is the attitude you have toward something. Your mindset is the deciding factor whether you will achieve the success that you are looking for.  You must master your mindset to succeed as an entrepreneur.

Some people have a negative mindset or attitude. They always see the reasons why something won’t work or can’t be achieved. They talk themselves out of everything.

People who have mastered their mindset have a positive attitude. They do see problems but they are looking for solutions. They are searching for ways to make it work or make it happen.

Every person indeed has potential but unfortunately, not everyone is reaching for it. Your mindset matters a lot. A positive mindset let you reach in and tap into the potential you have for success.

When you master your mindset to tap into your potential, you will experience personal growth and success.

1. Create Clear Goals To Focus Your Mindset

Perhaps you say you want to be successful when asked. Yet, when someone asks you for your plan to achieve success, you don’t have actionable goals.

The problem with broad random milestones is that you won’t reach them. Something like “I want to be successful” or “I want my business to grow” is too broad and not specific.

You have to define a roadmap to your goals and break them down into actionable steps. Part of mastering your mindset is to set yourself a clear path to follow.

OK, you can be more specific and say you want to make an extra $40,000 this year. What are the steps that you are going to take to get there? The money is not going to appear in your bank account overnight.

You need to break the goal down. For instance, how much money you need to make each month, week, and day to reach your goal for the year.

For an extra $40,000 a year you need to earn an extra $3,333 a month, or $833 per week or $119 a day.

Your focus is on getting $119 a day. If you achieve that, you will reach your ultimate goal of $40,000 a year. A $119 extra per day feels less intimidating than earning an extra $40,000 a year.

When you set smaller actionable goals it allows you to have a clear focus and the attitude to reach them. Remember, dreaming and hoping have unfortunately never led to results or changes.

When you set deliberate goals, you will have a sense of direction. Setting goals allow you to lead your life rather than be led. Actionable goals keep you on track for success.

Before you can set a goal, you need to know what you want in life. You must align your goals with the things that matter and mean the most to you.

Understand WHY You Want It

Successful people have a deep underlying motivation or reason for their goals. They know why they want it. They complete the sentence “I want (goal) because (reason)”. For instance “I want to be successful because I want to be able to spend more time with my family.”

Narrow your goals down to specifics and the reason why achieving the goal is so important to you. To master your mindset means that your mind understands why it must focus on what you want it to do.

You must set deadlines for each actionable step in your plan to achieve your goal. If you know you must make $119 a day you have a deadline and target and can measure your success.

Your goals must be within your reach. Yes, you must stretch yourself and place it just outside your comfort zone. But not so far that fear paralyzes you and you procrastinate.

Let's say you're earning now $20,000 a year and your goal is earning a million dollars this year. You are setting yourself up for failure before you even started. Setting a goal of earning a million dollars may be something you don’t even believe deep in your heart is possible.

Set achievable goals and make sure you get it done. It is better to set a goal of $30,000 a year and achieve that than setting a goal of a million dollars and never start because deep down you believe it's not possible.

Don’t set self-defeating goals. Set goals positively. For instance, set the goal of “increasing my mailing list by 20% this year”. It's far better than setting the goal of “find a way to make up for subscribers who are unsubscribing.”

Once you set your goals, it is important to reinforce them daily by looking them over. Stick them up somewhere where you daily see them. You must have your goals in front of your eyes and mind to pull you daily towards them.

Key Points:

  • You have to define a roadmap to your goals and break them down into actionable steps.
  • Actionable goals keep you on track for success.
  • You must set deadlines for each actionable step in your plan to achieve your goal.
  • Set achievable goals and make sure you get it done.

2. Keep Your Mindset Free From Negativity

Negativity is the greatest factor that derails your attempt at success.

Negativity wipes out motivation. Without motivation, you will be stuck and you won’t be able to reach your goals or change any part of your life.

You will struggle with motivation if your head is full of negative messages. Not only messages in your voice, but the voices of other people also.

For example, you’re fired up and ready to start your business. Then someone says you don’t have the talent, knowledge, money, or courage to make it happen.

All that negativity seeps into your mind and inner world and self-doubt start to multiply. You start thinking that maybe they’re right. You don’t have the talent or knowledge. You have never done this. Before long the negativity destroys your motivation and confidence.

It’s not a matter of whether you’re going to encounter these negative people, but when. Many people have a negative outlook and they always spread that negativity.

The key is not to accept what they say. You have the power to accept or reject negativity. Mastering your mindset means you are capable of rejecting negative input that pulls you down.

Well-Meaning Family And Friends May Influence Your Mindset Negatively

The sad part is that often close family is the most destructive in your life.  They may be well-meaning or try to be helpful. Maybe they want to protect you from getting hurt or fail. They will try to persuade you that what you’re trying to do is impossible.

The second group of people who may want to stop you will be your friends. Often friends want to play safe and want you to do the same.

No doubt being an entrepreneur means taking some calculated risks. There will always be some form of trial and error involved and a possibility of failure.

Remember it is all part of the process and not necessarily a bad thing. You mustn’t allow well-meaning family and friends to influence you to give up on your dream.

To be a success you must isolate yourself from negativity. If you don’t, the danger is that you will start to believe this negative feedback. Your motivation will disappear and you’ll give up.

Do everything you can to surround you with positive people. People who see setbacks as opportunities to learn from. To them, setbacks are not signs to give up but to become creative to overcome them.

Positive people will boost your motivation. They support you to reach your goals and dreams.

Key Points:

  • Negativity wipes out motivation. Without motivation, you will be stuck.
  • Negativity seeps into your mind and inner world and self-doubt start to multiply.
  • Do everything you can to surround you with people who are positive and support you.

3. Learn To Motivate Yourself For Success

The truth is that you will not always feel motivated. Sometimes you will feel motivated and other times your motivation will drop.

Motivation is a key ingredient in pushing forward. It goes hand in hand with achieving success.

Sometimes motivation comes from outside sources but you shouldn’t rely on it. The reason is that outside sources may come and go. They are not reliable.

You must learn to motivate and encourage yourself. Remember, motivation keeps you moving forward to your goals. When the source is within yourself, you always have access to it. Regardless of what you come up against, you can reach inside and tap into your inner power.

Mantras are a way of self-motivation. Mantras are simply words or phrases that you repeat to yourself. They help you keep a positive attitude.

Through the mantras, you focus your mind on the positive, which in turn boosts your motivation.

Manage Your Subconscious Mind For Success

You have to learn to deal with your subconscious mind. The role of your subconscious mind is to protect you from danger. The first it will scream is “watch out”, “careful”, or “don’t do this”. Its primary role is protection or survival and you have to learn to manage that.

If you don’t, then you will walk away from the things your mind views as difficult or frightening. It goes into protection mode.

But as an entrepreneur, your subconscious mind is one of your best tools to use. Despite it not geared towards the positive, you can teach it that you're not in danger by using mantras. Choose your mantras geared specifically toward success. Success mantras help you to be mindful of the positives in your life every day.  To master your mindset means you have created a mindset of gratitude. Gratitude keeps negativity out.

Mantras will change your perspective and keep you motivated by creating an optimistic attitude. You will find power and positive energy to overcome obstacles.

You can use mantras such as:
“I am prepared in mind, body, and spirit”
“I will live in the present, resolve the past and create my ideal future”
“I will seek to improve myself and the world today”

Mantras strengthen your outlook, help you feel stronger, and have better self-esteem.

Motivate yourself by creating mantras that inspire you to live up to your potential every day.

Key Points:

  • Motivation is a key ingredient in pushing forward.
  • You must learn to motivate and encourage yourself for success.
  • Success mantras help you to be mindful of the positives in your life every day and nurture a mindset of gratitude.

4. Read More Books To Open Your Mind

You must realize that mastering your mindset will change your life. You must have an open mindset, in other words, the ability to change your mind and how you think.

Often it costs a lot of money to get access to thought leaders and role models. We have the opportunity to gain access to the most brilliant minds in history through their books.

Books teach you, motivate you, inspire you, and help you in every area of your life. You can find books on any problem area in your life and show you how to overcome it.

The average American only reads one book a year. Worse, 60% of average Americans only get through the first chapter.

Contrast this with CEOs of Fortune 500 companies that read an average of four to five books a month. That is 5 times more than the average person reads in a year.

Bill Gates set his goals on the number of books he reads, namely 1 book per week. Same with Mark Zuckerberg who aims at 1 book every 2 weeks. Mark Cuban allocates a reading time of 3 hours every day. Elon Musk is also a keen reader and said he learned to build rockets by reading books.

Research shows people with an income above $160,000 a year read for self-improvement and success. People with an income below $35,000 a year read for entertainment.

Read The Right Books To Master Your Mindset

This is a clear message to you that you need to read books if you want to be successful. Not just any book for the sake of reading a book. It must be self-improvement, educational and success books.

Whether you target reading a certain number of books per month or a specific time per day is up to you. The point is you must read more.

Knowledge works the same way as compound interest. It builds up over time. Every little bit gets added to the previous bits until it becomes vast knowledge and wisdom.

Books are available to everybody. Anyone literate can read books, but very few do.

When you read, don’t read to get other people’s opinions. Read to get the facts and then think and form your own opinion.

Just as your body needs exercise to stay healthy, your mind needs the stimulus of reading and getting new ideas. You read to think, not to keep yourself busy.

Key Points:

  • You must have an open mindset, in other words, the ability to change your mind and how you think.
  • Books teach you, motivate you, inspire you, and help you in every area of your life.
  • You need to read the right books if you want to be successful.
  • Read to get the facts and then think and form your own opinion.
  • You read to think, not to keep yourself busy.

Conclusion

If you want to be successful in life you have to master your mindset. You must develop a positive attitude and open your mind to learning. Reading books give you access to great minds, build your knowledge, and help you grow.

Set specific goals that have a start and end date. Break it down in manageable small steps and focus on achieving the small steps.

Success depends on how you manage your time and your mindset.
