If you're tired of online marketing 'gurus' and people whose only income is from teaching how to make money online, you're in the right place. Win The Wealth Game is not my main source of income. I'm doing this because I love helping others to also get free from financial worries.
In the online marketing space, everybody wants a quick win. People are looking for shortcuts and 'magic bullets'. The truth is, chasing those shortcuts is a sure-fire route to failure. Building an online business is serious work that requires entrepreneurial skills. This is what I teach.
To me, creating my online business wasn't about money. It's about freedom. If you're chasing money, you'll be running for the rest of your life. Why escape a corporate rat race, only to join one you created? Time is your most scare resource. Work to live, don't live to work.
For clarity, when I talk about online business it's with the view that we do everything for the greater good of society. We are building businesses because we want to influence others and turn the world into a better place.
My basic philosophy is all about developing the required skills for any task. I have learned that success comes through struggles and obstacles. When I embrace my struggles as opportunities, the breakthroughs come.
No-one has ever build anything worthwhile without skills and expertise. Any occupation imaginable need skills and expertise for success.
Skillful, effective entrepreneurs create successful businesses. Information, tips, or shortcuts can only get you so far. There is no substitute for knowledge, skills, and experience.
Throughout my life I've applied this philosophy to everything. It applies to my fitness regime, nutrition, public speaking, policy formulation or building a business. This attitude to life has served me well.
No business, online or otherwise, can exist without selling a product or service. No business will survive if its goal is not satisfied customers. Without satisfied customers, sales will be short lived. So will the business.
My goal with Win The Wealth Game is simple: I want to share the strategies that I use as I grow my online business. I want you to use my successes and my failures to help you reach your own business goals without the mistakes I make.
So, Win The Wealth Game is about creating and growing a sustainable long-term online business. It's based on selling your own digital products and other people’s proven products. It’s all about you being valuable to other people and building an audience of true fans.
Three things are vital for your online business to thrive: great offers, traffic and a website that converts. I cover these aspects in depth. Unfortunately, the right tools and techniques won’t give you a sustainable business. Entrepreneurs failed not by a lack of knowledge or access to software and tools. They fail by something that has to do with character, mindset and work ethic.
The unfortunate truth is you cannot build a successful business without developing character. That's why I also cover the character and ethic of becoming an effective entrepreneur. Here are a few posts that can give you a good idea of what to expect on Win The Wealth Game.
The story you hear about entrepreneurs usually have one of two angles. They started their own business when they could barely count and were a millionaire by the time they left school. Or you hear how they grew up in the back streets, had only 10 cents left in their pocket and then somehow made it to millionaire status.
Well, neither of these stories is like mine at all…
I did what many people did in the 1970s. I went to university, got a degree and started a career in the central bank. If you listen to some people today, that’s like the kiss of death! Let me assure you, you can retire financially independent by following a corporate career. Financial freedom is not about where you work, but what you do with the money you earn. There are as many broke entrepreneurs as corporate workers.
I majored in statistics and economics. Those skills helped me a lot in my career and later in my entrepreneurial journey. I use finance and economic principles to increase the efficiency of what I do in business.
As a policy advisor, I focused on how to create an economic environment for businesses to thrive. A thriving private sector meant growing businesses and employment for people. A growing economy means wealth for people.
I loved my work. The economy is an ever-changing entity as people transact and make decisions. It’s fascinating to study how human psychology and behavior determines economic outcomes. Admittedly, not every work day was moonlight and roses. From time to time colleagues from hell crossed my path.
It was easy for me to make the change from country-level decisions to business level. Many principles remain the same. The only difference is scale.
After my retirement in 2014, my mother encouraged me to continue to make a difference using the internet. I was ready for the next phase in my life by joining the private sector as an entrepreneur.
After retirement, I tried my hand at a few ventures. Some worked out well others didn’t.
Earlier in my career, I successfully managed my own share portfolio and property investments. When I became a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, I stopped due to a potential conflict of interest. From then on a financial advisor managed my portfolio and it became a passive income.
Let’s look for a second at passive income and put a myth to rest. Passive income is relative to what you put in daily to generate that income. Someone has to do the work for income to flow. When you receive income without having to do the daily grind, then it’s passive income. Someone else is doing doing the grinding, not you. So, let’s be clear. Having an online business is not passive income unless someone else is doing all the work.
I started with Amazon FBA in the e-commerce space. I was very clear on my desire not to touch any packaging and posting. That's why I've chosen Amazon FBA as fulfillment vehicle. I had to get the products in bulk from the supplier straight to Amazon and they would do the rest. But I underestimated the number of skills and work to make a success of an e-commerce business.
Make no mistake. There are countless people who are successful with this business model. Some became millionaires.
I struggled because my heart was not in it and I didn’t feel like I was making a difference. I had some successes and ranked on the first page on Amazon in my niche.
It's costly to by and keep inventories. The ordering and shipping of inventory was not something I enjoyed doing. At the same time, I was writing my book and my attention got divided. Any business requires your full attention and I was not giving it the attention it deserves.
The lesson I learned is not to pursue ventures for the sake of making money. I should pursue something that excites me, that I love doing and that have an impact on people. Wealth and wealth creation is my passion and the teacher in me was not satisfied. Thus I stopped doing e-commerce.
I also entered the ‘real’ brick and mortar business world with business partners. I was not involved in the day-to-day activities of the businesses. In one business, a restaurant, we rented the premises. I’m telling you this because I learned a hard lesson from this. All went well until a new landlord took over the premises.
He did things that I considered unethical. For instance, he removed the utility meters from the shops and charged rates without providing any meter readings. Utility bills escalated month after month. Doubling and tripling. To cut a long story short, I obtained a high court order against him and he then canceled our lease.
The expensive lesson I learned was to never build my business on rented property. It is as valid for an online business as a normal brick and mortar business. You have to build your online business on your own domain. Don’t build your business on anybody else’s platform that can close your account at the drop of a hat.
The other brick and mortar business I invested in was doing quite well. I’m passionate about education. I lectured to more than 2 000 employees in our inhouse training college. I was also an honorary professor in economics at out local university. When the opportunity for building a pre-school I jumped at it. We have a long-term plan to add more classes to take a baby through school to his or her final school year at age 18.
We build that on our own property and are acquiring further properties for expansion. To give my full attention to Win The Wealth Game, I have decided to sell my share in the business. I felt it was the right time for me and my other business partners to expand our interests into other areas.
I confirmed my belief that your business must be build on your own property. You can scale your business and sell it at the right time.
You should not build your business around yourself as a key person. There is no sale-value in your business if the buyer needs you as key person in the business. You must put processes, people and systems in place so the business can run profitable without you. Only then have you created a valuable saleable asset. You don't want to work until you die. So, create something that other people can manage on your behalf or you can sell for a handy sum should you chose to.
Another thing I learned, was that I needed to do something on my own. I needed to take the decisions and responsibility as well as the blame if things don't work out.
We are the captains of our own ships. Everyone is born for a reason, a purpose and something bigger than oneself. But you have to activate your calling; no one is going to turn it on for you! It’s your responsibility to accept that calling and change into the person who can live that life. You have to grab the power to develop your mental strength, emotional intelligence, and physical health to live the life you want. You have to make that decision.
Wealth and health, which includes nutrition and fitness, give you financial and physical freedom. It’s never about money. It’s about giving yourself choices in life.
If you haven’t started an online business yet, don’t worry, you’re not alone and you’re not too late. Heck, I’m 64 years old (at the time of writing). I reckon I have still a good 20 or so years to be useful to others, God willing. So, it’s never too late to start something new and change your life.
There are still honest people on the internet despite the bad reputation some ‘gurus’ gave it. I’m hoping that my beliefs will also inspire you to make the internet a wonderful place for others and make money at the same time. My principle is simple: I want to always be able to look in the mirror and face my family and God without shame.
